Although not an attorney, Ambassador Sheldon J. Krys brings to Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth, PLC more than three decades of experience in governmental and international affairs. In the past 15 years he has held key positions in the Department of State which utilized a rare combination of management and policy expertise. He served as Executive Director for the Bureau of Near East and South Asian Affairs at the time of the Iran crisis and then was named Deputy Director of Management Operations. From 1985, he served successively, as Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Assistant Secretary of State for Administration and Information Management and Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security. The last two portfolios were global in scope and encompassed the entire range of providing, maintaining and managing a worldwide telecommunications network and of ensuring the security of all civilian government personnel posted to U.S. Missions abroad.


Ambassador Krys received his education at the University of Maryland and the National War college. He is a recipient of numerous awards and citations, including a Presidential Meritorious Service Award. Ambassador Krys has served on the board of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. For six years he was on the board of the George Foster Peabody Award and was its chair for two years. In 1996, Ambassador Krys received an honorary Ph.D. from St. John Fisher College.


Ambassador Krys retired from the U.S. Foreign Service with the personal rank of Career Minister.
